I just love making bread so much! I love having an idea in my head of how I want the bread to turn out and then seeing them actually turn out the way I had envisioned them to be just makes me so happy!
This recipe make 9 super cute little heart-shaped buns which are sure to put a smile on anyone's face! I used blueberry jam bits for mine or you can substitute them with dried cranberries or leave them out totally if you want.
They buns are dusted with plain flour just before baking and baked at a lower temperature so that the blue color does not fade out and darken out during baking.
Ingredients
For the dough:
Bread flour 200 g
Sugar 12 g
Salt 3 g
Yeast 2 g
Butter 12 g
Milk 140 ml, lukewarm
Jam bits 25 g
Butterfly pea powder 1 tsp
Place all the ingredients for the dough into the bread machine and run the dough mode.
After the end of the dough mode, remove dough and divide into 2 portions. Add butterfly pea powder to one half and knead well to incorporate. Add jam bits to the plain dough and knead to incorporate.
Divide each dough into 9 equal portions and roll into balls. Cover with a damp towel and rest for 15 mins.
Flatten a ball of jam bits dough and roll into a 10 cm circle. Place a blue dough ball in the centre and shape into a ball. Roll out to a long oval about 12 cm in length. Fold over and pinch sides. Cut the middle of dough on the folded end, leaving about 1 cm uncut. Open out and shape into a heart. Place onto a lined baking sheet. Repeat with the rest of the dough balls.
Cover with a damp towel and rest for 50 mins.
Preheat oven to 150C.
Lightly dust plain flour over the buns.
Bake for 15 mins in the middle rack of the oven.
Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack.
