These Tuna Rose Buns were not only super fun to make but they turned out super pretty and delicious too! These are made using my all-time favorite soft bread dough recipe and the prepared in my bread machine using just the dough mode. I made a simple tuna filling which you can easily replace with any filling of your choice, savoury or sweet.
I also microwaved the the egg white which i had removed the yolk for the egg wash, chopped it up and added it to the filling. No wastage and added protein!
Ingredients: (Makes 10 buns)
Dough:
Bread Flour 330 g
Milk powder 1.5 Tbsp
Salt 1 tsp
Milk 200 ml, lukewarm
Sugar 30 g
Egg Yolk 2
Yeast 1 tsp
Butter 25 g, softened
Filling:
Canned Tuna Flakes in water or oil 1 can, drained
Mayonnaise 3 Tbsp
1/2 Onion, chopped
Lemon juice 1 Tbsp
Salt and pepper to taste
Topping:
Black and white sesame seeds
Eggwash: 1 egg yolk + 1 Tbsp milk
Glaze: Melted butter, 2 Tbsps
Place all the ingredients for the dough into the pan of bread machine. Run the dough mode according to the manufacturer's instructions of your machine.
After the dough mode has been completed and dough has doubled in size, remove from pan onto a lightly floured work surface.
Flatten and divide dough into 10 equal pieces. Roll into balls, cover with a damp towel and rest for 10 mins.
Prepare tuna filling - in a medium bowl, mix all the tuna filling ingredients together and set aside.
Flatten a ball of dough and roll out to a 12 cm (4.5 inch) circle. With a small ice-cream scoop, place tuna filling in the centre of the circle. Cut 4 slits (at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock) leaving the centre of the dough intact. Lift one section and cover the side of the filling with it. Lift opposite section and cover the other side of the filling. Repeat with the other two sections. Pinch seams to seal. This is important so that the rose stays intact when baking.
Repeat with the rest of the dough balls.
Cover and rest for 40 mins.
Preheat oven to 176C.
Brush the tops of the buns with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake for 20 mins.
Remove from oven and immediately brush with the melted butter.
Simply a-dough-able!
