We eat a lot of bread in my family and I try to make a variety of bread or if I'm making the same kind of bread, I will at least a different way to shape the bread to make it more interesting and fun to eat.
Using my favorite soft bread recipe, I made these cute and yummy Wool Roll Sausage & Cheese Buns. These were really fun to create and I am really happy with how fun and cute they turned out!
I used my bread machine to prepare the dough by running just the dough mode. However, you may also use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook to prepare the dough.
Ingredients: (Makes 12 buns)
Dough:
Bread Flour 330 g
Milk powder 1.5 Tbsp
Salt 1 tsp
Milk 200 ml, lukewarm
Sugar 30 g
Egg Yolk 2
Yeast 1 tsp
Butter 25 g, softened
Filling:
4 chicken sausages/franks
6 slices of cheese
Eggwash: 1 egg yolk + 1 Tbsp milk
Glaze: Butter 1 Tbsp, melted
Place all the ingredients for the dough into the pan of bread machine. Run the dough mode according to the manufacturer's instructions of your machine.
After the dough mode has been completed and dough has doubled in size, remove from pan onto a lightly floured work surface.
Flatten and divide dough into 12 equal pieces (approximately 53 g each). Roll into balls, cover with a damp towel and rest for 15 mins.
Cut each sausage into 3 and the 6 slices of cheese into half so that you will have 12 pieces of sausages and 12 pieces of cheese slices. Roll each sausage with a slice of cheese.
Flatten a ball of dough and roll out to a 15 x 8 cm rectangle. Place a cheese-sausage roll onto the upper part of the rectangle, tuck in the ends and roll halfway. Cut the lower half of the rectangle into 10 strips (cut into half first and then cut each half into 5 strips). Roll all the way then tuck each end under the bun and place in a paper-lined muffin pan. Repeat with the rest of the dough balls.
Cover and rest for 40 mins.
Preheat oven to 176C.
Brush the tops of the buns with egg wash. Bake for 25 mins.
Remove from oven and immediately brush with the melted butter.
All you knead is love.
